United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture This publication, presented in plain language and with an appealing layout, examines the legal and medical definitions of torture, how and why it happens, the impact it has on victims, what makes torture different from other human rights violations, as well as ways in which it can be effectively treated and combated. It also includes five overviews on current projects in Australia, Bosnia, Chile, Pakistan and Rwanda which each consists of an article and a series of photographs.
