Sixty-sixth to Seventy-fourth Sessions (July 1999-March 2002). In accordance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its optional protocol, adopted by the UN General Assembly, the Human Rights Committee was established in 1976. Its role is to consider applications from individuals who believe that their human rights, as established under the Covenant, have been violated and who have exhausted all relevant national domestic remedies, providing certain conditions of admissibility are met. This report contains selected decisions made by the Committee during its sixty-sixth to seventy-fourth sessions (July 1999-March 2002).
